Favicon - Add your logo to a persons favourites

Have you ever noticed when adding a web site to your favourites list, that the web site's own company logo icon was added besides the web sites title in the list? This icon makes that website stand out from others in the list. If you were looking at your own favourites list, which web site link would you most likely click on when you view the list again?? Thats right! More often than not, you would click on the one with the special icon.

So how can you do the same thing for your web site? What is required is that you create a file called favicon.ico and to place it in any directory on your web site where someone could add your page to his/her favorites list. Usually people the icon to the main directory.

So how do you create the favicon file? First, you will probably want to get an icon creation tool to make it as easy as possible. Do a search on Google for favicon creation tools or even take a look at www.favicon.com

Familiarise yourself with the program and try a few of the settings. There are few things you will need to keep in mind though:

Make sure the size of your icon is 16x16 pixels. This is the size Internet Explorer will expect.

Make sure you use only a 16 color palette. It needs to be this way to work properly.

Creat your own custom icon using the particular program you have chosen to use. When you are done, save the file as favicon.ico and upload it to your server in the relevant directory on your web site. Test it out by adding your site to your favorites list. What a wonderful effect!

This a nice way to get a few more repeat visitors to your web site-- and that is always helpful to any company looking promote themselves on the internet.
